The immediate days and weeks after giving birth are incredibly life changing. Each day is different as you learn and discover more about your newborn, and adjust to parenthood. A lot of emphasis is often placed on pregnancy and labour and less so on the postnatal period. Support at this time is crucial and a gentle transition is beneficial to the bonding process between you and your baby.
Postnatal care: Once you arrive home with your baby I can visit on the same or following day and support with 'settling' in. Thereafter I can visit daily for the first 3 days, and gradually reduce the visits up to 6 weeks as your confidence increases. Your chosen method of feeding support will be given with a holistic approach to care. Adequate rest, nutrition and hydration is vital for you and your family and ensuring this, is integrated within the care provided.
Breastfeeding support: Breastfeeding is a natural but new and complex skill for you and your baby to learn. I can support you in a non rushed and gentle way to ensure you get breastfeeding off to the right start, where difficulties may arise I can guide you through the process. Having adequate support and advice in the first instance will provide the foundations to successful long term breastfeeding outcomes for you and your baby.
